To describe event or activities that occurred in the past.

The pattern:

(+) Subject + Vpast + (object/complement) +…

     Subject  + was/were + object/complement

(-) Subject  + did +not +Vbase + (object/complement) + …

     Subject + was/were + not +object/complement

 (?) Did + subject + Vbase + (object/complement)

       Was/were + subject + object/complement + ?

Caption Time:

Yesterday ,last…(night/week/month,etc)

(a few minutes/a month/two years/week and etc) ago ,this morning just now.

Example :

·         Japan colonize Indonesia from 1942 to 1945  

         (colonized)

·         Lira write some novels the years before

·         Did the baby lie on bad?

·         Did she teach Japaness?
